MIKIMOTO Celebrates 50 Years of Retail in United States with a Limited Edition Collection

In 1959, Mikimoto opened its first American retail boutique inside Takashimaya on Fifth Avenue, New York, where it instantly joined the upper echelon of luxury retailers and became the most trusted name in cultured pearls of the highest quality.  Fifty years later, the current, freestanding Mikimoto Fifth Avenue store remains a hot spot for the elite and a destination for shoppers from around the world.  To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of this first retail store in the United States, Mikimoto introduces a limited edition collection of cultured pearl jewelry. 

Each piece in Mikimoto’s limited edition 50th Anniversary collection was selected to recognize Mikimoto’s half-century of American retail in a different manner. In tribute to Mikimoto’s “golden” anniversary of Retail, there is a 32” Golden South Sea cultured pearl chain necklace.  Whether worn alone or layered with a strand, this necklace is an instant classic.  Paying homage to 50 years, Mikimoto introduces an exclusive 50” multi-colored Black South Sea cultured pearl necklace.  Looking to the past, some of the initial offerings at that first Takashimaya store were Akoya cultured pearls, still Mikimoto’s staple.  In celebration of the 50th Anniversary, there is a special set consisting of a double strand Akoya necklace with diamond rondelles with a matching pair of Akoya cultured pearl and diamond stud earrings.  Finally, looking to the future, Mikimoto introduces 2 limited edition necklaces to today’s most popular jewelry collection:  Pearls in Motion.  Both the 19” and 50” necklaces consist of a modern mix of colored freshwater and Black South Sea cultured pearls.
